Regen and Repair Tour

Our expedition consisted of volunteering with B-Alternative in Far North Queensland for an epic, multi-faceted, regenerative adventure.

The tour was led through Kuku Yalanji land, Guugu Yimithirr Country, Gunggandji Sea Country, and Tablelands Yidinji Country.
We commenced by joining Rainforest Rescue in the Daintree, the world’s oldest rainforest, where we planted 3,300 trees of 90 different species. The lands that were once desolate sugar cane fields are slowly regenerating and forming a nature wildlife corridor.

Next stop was Cape Bedford, an incredible remote beach near Cooktown, Cape York, which is currently an unfortunate catchment for marine debris. Over two days we collected more than 1,300kg of plastic pollution across a 3 km stretch of the beach, including numerous ghost nets, plastic bottles, and shards of broken plastic. By doing clean-ups like this, we prevent plastic from breaking down into microplastics, which helps minimise the harm to coastal ecosystems and marine life.
Our journey continued with Parley, who work tirelessly to protect our oceans, where we sorted the collected plastic for up-cycling and recycling to prevent it from reaching landfills.

Then we headed to Fitzroy Island National Park and snorkelled on the reef, contributing to coral health surveys through the Coral Watch program, feeding vital data into a global conservation database.
Finally, we visited the Native Conifer Carbon Sink Project in the Southern Atherton Tablelands, witnessing the success of carbon farming initiatives.

These experiences solidified our commitment to the preservation of our unique ecosystems.
